People with more than 15k hours on their accounts have most likely
had their accounts for a long time, and been afk for a lot of it.

It is impossible to measure how much time they have actually spent
consciously on GW, for all you know they are just forgetful and leave
GW on by accident.

Even if 50% of that time is afk. It still means they were like 300+ days afk. why would you waste 300+ days of electricity? :O

Time spent does not decide how good you are at it.. Also, you should've played all aspects of the game (pve/pvp) and on multiple characters to call yourself an expert.

My main char is 3,257 hours old (5,859 hours on acc) over 54 months.. I don't see how I could call myself an expert.

When you don't ever need wiki anymore and never need to ask questions about anything IG, you may call yourself an expert on GW.
But you could also be an expert at indivudual stuff, like HA, RA or specific PvE stuff.

I'm around this area also, except all my previous characters been deleted so I can change their names. Deleted 10 level 20 characters with maxed armor, totally worth it. Nonetheless, my main has around 2500 hours.

i have over 12k total hours in 64 months but the past 14 months ive playe dmaybe 3 hours becuz of aion lol .... so yeah i have no life i belive my aion play time in 1 year now is like 3k hours and i rarly afk in aion due to the 30 min kick timer

10000 hours may apply to mastering a real life activity. A martial art or similar.

A single game... not so much. Think about this: would you really need to spend 10000 hours to learn all the possibilities of tic tac toe?

I have 9,340 hours across all characters, but the most for any one character is around 2900. Unfortunately, given how seldom I play any more, I`m not apt to reach the 10k mark ever.

P.s - No significant afk either. The longest I`ve ever been afk was maybe 1 hour doing one of those 9-rings things (eating) - and then, only the one time.

Actually GW doesn't waste electricity. Maybe the computer being on does, but people don't solely use their PC for GW. GW can easily run in the background of my PC while I do other things. That, and the cost of it being on is probably $10, which I make while sleeping at work.

I have just under 3k hours across all chars over 46 months. My warrior has 1.23k hours and that's only because of LDoA which is almost all afk time, adding in all of the d/c and unnecessary dying or just being forgotten. I'd say 900 of that would be afk. I'm not sure how people can not get sick of this game from time to time. I pray for a power outage in your neighborhood. Give you some time to go outside. Oh and don't get me wrong 2k hours over almost 4 years is still nothing to be proud of. It's quite embarrassing as is.

I can leave my characters AFK for sick amount of time and easily get over 10k hours on many of them.
Would it mean anything? Besides the fact that I like to waste energy.

I have 7500 hours on my account and about 2000 on my Paragon. But, like many people have said before me, I don't think that's an accurate measurement of in-game knowledge or expertise. Maybe a more accurate measurement would be the total amount of experience gained on one character? Unfortunately this would make solo farmers have a disproportionately high amount of xp., but I think this is a step in the right direction if you want to have a proper dick-waving contest. For example, my Paragon has 16,829,361 xp.

I remember watching an interview a year or two ago in one of the devs said that the whole reason they needed titles or a hall of monuments was because "they had no idea people were going to spend thousands of hours playing this" or something along those lines.

The whole idea of the thread was that the concept of skill> time that they presented in 2005 is not really accurate, once reputation and stuff like cartography was added. Also, the idea that the "free" of Guild Wars goes down the drain once you start getting into massive time sink titles. FFF , for example, is not a measure of skill...

My necro has duoed in UW for a few hundred hours. Does that make him more skillful than my monk that has less exp but not duo-ed?

Like I said, farming character would have a lot more xp than non-farming characters; that's because experience points are divided evenly among all party members (even the healers) so one character in an 8-man party would receive only 12.5% of the experience gained. But you can still compare non-farming characters with other non-farming characters to get a reasonable assessment of who has the bigger e-peen, I mean who is more skillful. I'm not saying it's a perfect system, but it makes more sense to me than that 10,000 hour rule.

Quality over quantity. Most people who have those amounts have at least half of it spent afk'ing. Im pretty sure I have over 10k hrs, but at least 2/3 of it is either afking or just chatting/standing around.

Plus, if people are playing a character with that time using a subpar build (and builds change frequently depending on the meta anyways) then that time spent learning is less relevant anyways.

i have like 2-3k time on my main derv and over 12-13k on the whole account. and yes most of it is afk on rings or to do rl stuff.

Even that is kinda flawed. I mean, I don't have a single "farming character." I've farmed on pretty much all of my characters at least a little bit (well, maybe not the mesmer and the derv). It's hard to say just how much of my ele's xp is from natural play and how much is from raptor farming during events.

1970 hours on my War. 3000 hours all up. No meaningful amount of that time afk'ed.
